How often to declutter to maintain?
How often do I declutter to maintain?
Feel like you are decluttering all the time?
Feel like just as you make headway in one space you see another 5 spaces that are not organized?
First of all I want you to know that we all have clutter and you are not alone! When it comes to maintenance, I believe it depends on how you live, want your home to look and how much time you have to spend on the decluttering process
Here are some tips to help you maintain an organized space:
Establish a routine. Set aside a specific time each week to tackle clutter and put things away.
Create designated spaces for items. This will help you easily find things when you need them and prevent clutter from accumulating in the first place.
Get rid of things you don't need or use. This will not only free up space but also make it easier to maintain an organized space.
Use storage solutions that work for you. This may include baskets, shelves, or other storage containers that fit your lifestyle and the items you need to store.
Involve your family or roommates in the process. Encourage everyone to participate in maintaining an organized space to prevent clutter from building up.
Make it a habit to clean up as you go. Putting things away as soon as you're done using them will prevent clutter from accumulating in the first place.
Remember, decluttering and organization is an ongoing process. By incorporating these tips into your routine, you can maintain an organized and clutter-free space that works for you and your lifestyle.
Decluttering itself can be a daunting task, but with the right tools, it can be an achievable goal. Here are some additional tools that can help you on your decluttering journey:
The 80/20 rule: This rule suggests that we only use 20% of our belongings, while the other 80% goes unused. To declutter, identify the 20% of items that you use regularly and focus on letting go of the remaining 80%.
The Four-Box Method: This method involves labeling four boxes - keep, donate, sell, and trash. As you declutter, place items into the appropriate box.
One in One out, buy a new t shirt - declutter one from your closet you may not wear often.
Collect like items together to declutter a set pile of like items together. Example - have a bunch of books but only read some? Gather them and declutter the ones that you won’t read again or are not of interest to you.
After holidays ( birthdays or other holidays) declutter and re gift all the gifts you may not use or like, don't let them sit around for years until they are no longer a great gift for someone else.
So to sum up the initial question, How often do I declutter to maintain? There isn't one answer for all. It depends, but what I can say for sure is that if you declutter spaces that get cluttered often it certainly will not take you a lengthy cleaning session, if however you don't declutter your baby items until your child is 20years old you may have a bigger job on your hands.
To determine how often you should declutter, consider the following factors:
The size of your living space
The number of people living in your home
How frequently you acquire new items
The storage options available to you
