Thinking of going small? A start to downsizing
Downsizing can be an overwhelming and time consuming task for most people. Especially when you are sorting through a lifetime of memories and trying to decide what physical items you will keep. Maybe you are not even doing this for yourself but for a loved one who can not complete the task. Here are a few things to consider when working on a downsizing project.
Downsizing: A New Adventure
Moving to a smaller space doesn't always have to be a sad transition. It could even be a positive change. Perhaps you're relocating from a large Ontario home to a sunny Florida condo. Or maybe you're downsizing from a lonely acreage to a cozy bungalow in a seniors community. Whatever your reason for downsizing, there are a few things to consider before beginning this journey.
First, envision your new space. Do you want it to have a ‘beachy’ vibe, like your Florida condo? If so, you can already start to downsize all those "country chic" and Christmas decor boxes. Next, think about the items you own. For instance, do you have boxes of photo albums? Consider digitizing them and displaying them on a digital photo frame or TV.
Lastly, if you're moving into retirement living or long-term care, most meals will be provided for you. This means you can likely downsize your kitchen by many items. So, let's embrace the downsizing journey and see where it takes us
Most importantly, when you are considering downsizing, don't think of what you are getting rid of or passing along. Think of what you will create in your new place. How when you look around, you will see only things you love and adore.?
